Big Turnout at 2009 Asian Poker tour

The highly prestigious Asian Poker Tour tournament has just announced that it has enjoyed a 20 percent increase in the amount of players that took part in its Main Event at the StarWorld Hotel and Casino in Macau. According to the Tournament Director of the APT at the Macau Festival held last week, 133 players took part in day1A and 193 players took part in Day1B. This meant a total of 326 players over the two days, which was a significant increase since the 257 players that took part in the tourney lat year.

According to the CEO of the Asian Poker Tour, Chris Parker, the 326 players that showed up to participate exceeded the expectation held last year in 2008 that a total of 300 players would show. This is already an achievement, yet in the current economic situation taking place, it is reason to be exceptionally pleased with the results. The extra players also strengthens the possibility of turning the Asian Poker Tour in a 12-day long festival, especially when so many of the players were themselves Asian. Parker explained that on Day1A, more than half of the playing field consisted of Asian poker players.

Some of the biggest names visible at the event included: Quinn Do, JC Tran, David "Chino" Rheem, James Akenhead, David Chiu, Steve Yea, Casey Kastle, David Steicke, Liv Boeree, Kim Wooka, Steve Sung and Mel Judah. The final winner took home a major prize worth $391,592 as part of a $1,408,832 major prize pool.
