State-owned Danske Spil joins forces with PartyGaming

Denmark's state-owned gambling operator, Danske Spil has signed a five-year contract with on-line gambling group, PartyGaming to ensure that Danish payers have access to internet casinos and poker. However, this deal is dependent on the much anticipated move by the Danish Government to legalise online gaming. It is expected that Danish legislators will pass the draft legislation liberalising on-line gaming in 2011 which will leave PartyGaming well placed to take advantage of the changing face of internet gambling in Europe.

After the anticipated legislation set by the Danish Government, similar deals by other European countries are expected to be made as governments look for ways to take advantage of the financial benefits of embracing the online gaming culture. It is commonly believed by industry analysts that revenues generated by taxes will only help to push through these legal changes. Hearings will begin this month in France between French legislators on the reformation of online gambling. In 2008, the Italian government opened its doors to online poker and the German government it seems will not be that far behind in joining them.

This is the first deal of its kind for PartyGaming as the company aims to become the leading provider of business to business services to both corporate enterprises and governments around the world. It is welcome news for a company that left the US Market in 2006 after congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. It is hoped however, that law makers will be able to overturn the UIGEA and American players will be able to enjoy the same privileges as their European counterparts.
