The Antigua and US dispute which has been ongoing for a long time was discussed and addressed at the Remote Gaming Summit in London. The 32 nation symposium, of which Antigua and Barbuda were party to, had an overall positive outcome for Antigua. The moral support of several governments, including that of Britain, helped make this online casino base see a light at the end of the tunnel. The recent legislation that was passed by President George W. Bush concerning the banning of online casino gaming has had a strong impact on the online casinos industry and has many online gambling firms worried about their futures.
‘This was a good forum for us to demonstrate our global leadership in the effective and reasoned regulation of these services. Following our discussions today we look forward to working with Tessa Jowell and the UK government in continuing to implement regulations for the benefit of the online gambling community both in Antigua and the rest of the world,’ said Dr. Errol Cort, the Minister of Finance and the Economy for Antigua. The fact that the online casino issue was fully addressed in this summit helps the rest of the world see that the US’ law does not pertain to online casino businesses run from other countries.
Delegates parted at the end of the session with a short-term objective of development of a consensus, and plan on meeting again in the coming months to continue the momentum created by the summit. Only the future will tell how the online casino industry will do now that the US is enforcing the law it has passed regarding online casino gaming. The members of the online gambling industry hope that things will return to normal and online casino fans will continue to flock to their virtual doors.
