Although this epic battle seems to be taken right from the movies, the fact is that it's taking place right here, right now. Just days after Congressman Barney Frank announced that he will introduce a legislation that would regulate and control online casino sites, his "enemy", anti-online gambling Senator Jon Kyl from Arizona is attacking back. According to an article in the nationalledger, Kyl will do everything in his power so the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act will not be repealed. As a reminder, In April 2025 Jon Kyl was a major House supporter of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2025, which was added to another, must-pass, bill.
Kyl, which has already been transformed into the online casino industry's biggest rival, also attacked the online poker sector in that article, claiming that it encourages gambling among the youth of the United States. Clearly, Kyl has never read the Arizona Office of Problem Gambling Youth Survey, which was conducted last year. More than 60,000 students in grades 8 through 12 participated in the survey, which concluded that more than 92% of them never even gambled on the Internet. Another interesting point from that survey is the fact that 30% of the respondents did play the lottery or scratch tickets, hinting Kyl what may be the real form of addicting gambling in Arizona.
One thing is for sure – this very controversial issue is far from over. Most chances are that Kyl and Frank will continue their "battle", with one of them aiming for online casino regulation and the other for a total ban. Only the future will tell us which one ended up victorious, but we sure know who our favorite guy is.
