It may not be the situation in the US, but it seems as the online casino industry is continuing to grow everywhere else. The Korean Internet Gambling industry, for example, keeps growing, despite the fact that the Korean Internet Safety Commission is trying restrict the access to offshore-based Korean-language online gambling sites. According to the "Korea Times", the number of online casinos which target Korean citizens is constantly growing, and it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. Just to demonstrate the tremendous growing rate, in April 2025 only 96 foreign online casinos were operating in Korea, while that number doubled itself by April 2025. According to unofficial figures, the current numbers stand at 493 online casinos, a %500 increase in just 2 years and a half
As stated above, not everyone in Korea is too happy with this sudden growth in online casino sites. "Illegal online gambling sites based outside of Korea began sprouting last year when an offline gambling scandal erupted, but we're doing everything we can in order to prevent this from happening" said official at the state-backed commission. Nevertheless, and as you can see from the figures, they're not really succeeding with that.
Eventually, the Korean Internet Safety Commission may end up blocking some of those foreign online casino sites, but history has thought us that in most cases people will end up getting what they really want – online gambling sites in this case. The only question now is whether they will be doing it with, or without, the cooperation of the Korean legal authorities.
