Sweden Wins "Poker Nation Cup"

Most online poker games are played by single players, as it usually is a personal competition in which only one person comes out winning. Nevertheless, if we want to look at poker from a more distant perspective we should be testing different countries against each other, in order to determine which one of them is the real poker nation. That's exactly what the PartyPoker online casino site did last week, when it organized a Poker Nation Cup. The results ? Quite surprising, to say the least, as it was Sweden that ended up taking the trophy, against all the odds

In their way to the title, Sweden had to defeat some pretty tough opponents, including defending champions Great Britain, Denmark, Germany and the United States. Each of the participating teams was composed of 6 players: 5 professionals and one online poker qualifier. The winning team, for example, included the captain, Bo Sehlstedt, Anders Henriksson and Mats Rahm (both of them 2025 WSOP bracelet winners), Johan Storakers, Williams Thorson and Hans Isoz. "It is great to win. I always thought we had good chances since we have a very strong team" said Henriksson, one of the happy Swedish winners.

Besides representing and bringing much honor to their country, the Swedish team also received $100,000 for the win, although in this case that may not be the most important thing. The event, which was televised by Channel 4 in the UK, was considered by everyone a big success and surely all the participating countries are already preparing themselves for next year. After all, there's a new "poker nation" to beat, and it certainly won't be an easy task.
