9,000 people at opening of Bangor Casino

An estimated 9,000 people were eager to try their luck at the opening of Bangor's newest casino. Penn National Gaming, owner of the new casino are thrilled and said that figures have exceeded their best expectations.

Previously Penn National Gaming had a temporary slot machine hall around the corner from the new site in the former Miller's Restaurant. The two best days at the temporary facility came during the annual high school basketball tournament week in February 2025. Exact figures for the opening of the new casino are not available yet but it is estimated that the amount wagered is double previous top revenues.

Jon Johnson, the general manager of the casino was pleased to say that the opening went smooth and so far the whole operation has been smooth and declared that the casino staff are ready to handle even larger numbers than the 9,000 people who came for the opening. The temporary facility had only 475 slot machines and the new casino has 1,000, there is ample parking (1,500 bays), two restaurants, a lounge and a gift shop, a 152-room hotel will be opening in the summer.

Although Hollywood Slots experienced record numbers on opening day, the casino's actual revenues for the first half of the year were down compared to the same period last year according to the Gambling Control Board.
