The online casino industry has put a well organised movement together and it is trying to get the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) repealed but last month a bill which was to prevent the UIGEA regulations from being implemented until a clear definition of illegal internet gambling is put on the table, failed to pass in a voting session of the Financial Services Committee.
The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) and Congressman Robert Wexler are calling to arms poker players asking them to make their voices heard. Wexler and PPA chairman, former Sen Alfonse D'Amato held discussions with Casino City's Vin Narayanan at the World Series of Poker to discuss the situation. With jocularity dispensed, they got down to the business of online casinos.
Congressman Wexler pointed out that the recent vote showed the strongest support any Congress has ever shown for online casinos and believes that the absurdity of the current status has never been more clearly defined.
PPA Chairman D'Amato said that the NFL has been persistent in their efforts to keep UIGEA in place and said that this is fine for sports betting but not fine for online casinos. At present, UIGEA allows states to run online casino and poker rooms but it is restricted to resident of that state.
Wexler said that he is in support of the right of all Americans to visit online casinos when and where they want. D'Amato added his opinion and said that government should stop harassing citizens and let them play wherever they want.
