The online casino industry has already received a couple of blows this year, especially from the US government, but it seems as there are some more in the way. According to "The Korea Herald", the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication will toughen up monitoring measures on online gambling, which already are pretty strict. In order to achieve that plan, they will be cooperating with other government agencies in the country, including Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Police Agency and the Information and Communication Ethics Committee
According to the local newspaper, from now on online casino sites will have to go through a much more rigid process of acceptance until receiving the approval of the Game Rating Board and becoming a fully operable site. If that's not enough, the National Police Agency recently revealed that it has already requested the ethics committee to block 291 online gambling sites, as opposed to only 76 last year. That committee, among other things, has the authority to force local network providers to block illegal websites – online casinos among them.
Nevertheless, not everything is bad when looking at this latest decision of the Korean government, as these new measures might even help in some way the online gambling industry. Many of the illegal online casino sites, which will be blocked by the Korean local network providers, were hurting the good name and reputation of the whole industry, as they weren't trustworthy and reliable. Maybe, after all, something good will come up from this move, even if that's not the way it looks right now
