The US anti-online gambling legislation, also known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, has managed to anger millions of gamblers all around the country and cause losses of billions of dollars to many companies all around the world. Nevertheless, it seems as one sector of the online casino industry has managed to come out well after all – skill games. As they are not considered "games of chance", skill games are allowed to be played online in the US, making it one of the hottest trends online nowadays. More and more sites are starting to offer those kinds of games, which seem to be more popular than ever

"There seems to be a whole new market developing around skill games, which are appealing to a different type of player than the normal casino or poker player" says Ian Ross, the founder and director of doolallys, a portal which added these kinds of games lately. Sports, motorsports and martial arts are just some of the type of games offered in most sites, but new games are added almost daily.

Right now, the stakes are considered relatively smaller when compared to online casino games, but who knows, maybe that will change too in the future. "Inevitably, guys always want to make things more interesting by putting something at stake, which is exactly what skill gaming is all about" says Michael Haines, managing director of SkillGround, another site specializing in these kinds of games. Following this trend, are we facing the end of the online casino games as we know them ? Probably not, but it's always good to have some other alternatives
