Good news for all German online gamblers out there – a Munich court has ruled against an online gambling ban, which was proposed by the German state Of Bavaria. Bwin, one of the largest online casino sites in the world, has been waiting 8 months for this decision, after an attempt of the local government to ban online gambling activities in Bavaria, claiming that the Bayern Lotto State Lottery is the only legal form of gambling in that area. There's no doubt that that the repercussions of this latest ruling will help not only Bwin, but many other online casinos in this region and maybe even throughout Europe.
What's really interesting about the Munich court's decision is the reason given for the annulations of the ban. According to the court, it is "technically not possible" to prevent players in the Bavaria state from gambling at online casino sites. Moreover, the judges even criticized the state, highlighting the fact that they didn't even show "…a single comprehensible way for those online gambling companies to be technically able to implement the ban"
Even though it's still unknown if the Bavarian state will appeal the ruling, you can be sure that this isn't the end of the story. After all, online casino sites are considered much more attractive than local lotteries, which explains why several states are so worried about it. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean that we, the gamblers, should be the ones suffering from the situation. A free and open market is one of the most important things in a democratic country, and the Bavarian state really should have known better.
