Gambling addiction is one of the biggest problems that online casino sites are facing during the last years. Even though those sites want as many bets placed as possible, they are doing their best efforts in order to abolish gambling addiction, which can literally ruin people's lives. Along with the sites, many other organizations and groups are trying to do everything they can to solve that problem. In one of those efforts, the Swedish government has recently released, via the Svenske Spel website, a new responsible gaming tool named "Spellkol", which can monitor players' activity and report when there are signs of a problem.
The tool, which translates to "player or gambling control", can check over a hundred parameters, including frequency of play, play habits, wagering levels and indications of loss chasing. By using those parameters, the software can then divide the different online casino players into three categories, according to the level and severity of the problem. "Spellkol", which was developed jointly with ICU, uses advanced data mining technology in order to process the data from the players, making it the first tool of its kind and a milestone in online gambling responsibility awareness.
"Spelkoll is a new and innovative tool that shows one of many different solutions our technology can provide. It has been a very complex developing process but we're happy with the results" says Andreas Holmström, CEO of ICU. While the Swedish government is the first to have truly understood the gambling addiction problem, we all hope that more and more countries will follow, making the online casino world a much pleasant and safer place to be
